Nationwide Insurance Company is a popular and well-known insurance company located in the United States. With more than 80 years in the insurance business, Nationwide is extremely reputable and well-known both inside and outside of the insurance business. The company was founded in 1925 in order to provide small farmers in Ohio with auto insurance. Incorporated by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, the company started with the name Farm Bureau Mutual Auto Insurance Company and sold its first policy in 1926. By 1928, the Farm Bureau Mutual Auto Insurance company was expanding into other states, including West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Vermont, and North Carolina. In 1934, the company begins to underwrite fire insurance and therefore expands into property insurance. Also in 1934, the company starts to insure motorists in urban areas, as well as the rural areas that were the company's hallmark. By the end of World War II in 1943, the business is operating in twelve states and the District of Columbia.
After 1943, the company made a concerted effort to expand into western states -- and succeeded. By 1955, the company operated in an additional 20 states, bringing its total to 32. It was clear that the company had been more successful than ever imagined at first, and that it had outgrown its name. In 1955, the company changed its name to Nationwide Insurance Company and has been known as Nationwide ever since. In 1978, Nationwide completed its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio at One Nationwide Plaza. In 1997, Nationwide Financial went public, initiating a new era of growth for the company.
Through its history, Nationwide has been known for its commitment to diversity. Through strategic planning the company seeks to include people of different backgrounds, nationalities, genders and abilities. Nationwide is committed to creating an environment that looks like the people they serve. This leads to new customers as well as new opportunities to grow and serve as employees and as a company.
Nationwide offers a wide range of insurance options including auto insurance, homeowners insurance, renters insurance, motorcycle insurance, farm insurance and Nationwide term life insurance. Term life insurance is a fast-growing part of Nationwide. Nationwide term life insurance is popular in America, and the premiums are often fair and affordable.
